Siberian center for Environmental Research and Training

First Announcement and Call for Papers

Siberian Center for Environment Research and Training (SCERT) together with the Institute for Numerical Mathematics RAS (INM), Institute of Monitoring of Climatic and Ecological Systems SB RAS (IMCES), Siberian Federal University and Institute of Computational Modeling (ICM) SB RAS with the support of the Asia Pacific Network hold the eleven-day scientific educational action comprising International Young Scientists School on Computational Information Technologies for Environmental Sciences CITES-2009 with the International Conference devoted to the same theme.

The conference will be held immediately after Young Scientists School on Computational Information Technologies for Environmental Sciences where special attention will be paid to Application of Statistical Methods to Environmental Problems but other questions of computational and informational technologies usage in environmental sciences will be also discussed. The school will be held on July 5-10, 2009. All lectures at the school will be delivered in Russian. Those who are interested in attending School can get information at the event site http://www.scert.ru/ru/conference/cites2009/first_call/.

Then the school attendees and Lecturers will take part in the CITES-2009 International Conference whose audience will be enlarged by number of prominent scientists from NIS and world leading environmentally oriented research organizations. There they will be able to present their results and get new knowledge in the spheres of their interest. At the Conference several additional invited one-hour lectures of leading Russian and foreign specialists on modern problems of computational information technologies development and their application in environmental sciences are planned. Working language of the Conference is English.

The CITES-2009 Conference will be opened on July 11, 2009 by one-day Practical Session “Ecological state of the Enisey river” combined with boat trip and then run as a sequence of basic sessions (2 days) and Northern Eurasia Earth Science Partnership Initiative (NEESPI) Workshop (2 days) devoted to different aspects of the conference theme. Among those is the Siberia Integrated Regional Study (SIRS) to which a special Session will be dedicated.

The CITES-2009 conference program will comprise the following sessions:

Session 1. Data, metadata and ontologies. Chairs – Dr. A.Z. Fazliev (Russia) and S. Nativi (Italy).

Session 2. Basic and applied information-computational systems. Chairs –  Prof. E.P. Gordov (Russia) and tbd.

Session 3. Physics of climate system.  Chairs – RAS Corr. member V.N. Lykosov (Russia) and Prof. M. Heimann (Germany)

Session 4. Urban and regional atmosphere: from modeling to monitoring and risk estimation. Chairs – Prof. V.V. Penenko (Russia) and A. Baklanov (Denmark)

The  NEESPI Workshop chaired by  Dr. P. Groisman is scheduled for July 14-15, 2009.  This workshop will include session on Siberia Integrated Regional Study (Chairs/Organizers – Academician E.A. Vaganov and Prof. E.P. Gordov (Russia))

The Program Committee will invite key specialists in the area to present invited papers covering the state of the art and their recent results obtained in the chosen directions.  Also limited number of papers will be selected for oral presentation. Contributed papers will be presented mainly at relevant poster Sessions with short oral presentation. Those who’d like to present an invited/oral paper, please, contact relevant Session and Workshop Chairs/Organizers. After the Conference the program Committee will select papers for publication in the Special Issue of a peer reviewed Journal.

To enhance the educational component of the Conference, several additional invited one-hour lectures of leading Russian and foreign specialists on modern problems of environmental computational information technologies development and hot topics of environmental sciences are planned.

The CITES-2009 Program Committee is headed by academician V. Dymnikov (Institute for Numerical Mathematics, Russia). It includes
